The Oak’s story
Since the beginning God has been interested in working out the story of Himself and His people in the joy and safety of community. In the Old Testament this community was called Israel (God’s people). At the cross Jesus fulfilled the requirement to be in the relationship with God through the law and made a way for people to come to God freely, receiving His grace. This new community is called the church. The Oak is one part of the people of God.
The Oak Church began gathering in January 2011, led by Chris & Lisa Mason, in a front room. The Oak then quickly moved to a bigger venue, before moving into our own building where we gather on Sunday mornings and throughout the week in Life Groups and Oak Communities to work out our mission together - to build communities that are rooted in God and serving the world.
Our story is both individual and corporate. Each member of The Oak has a personal story of what God has and is doing in their lives. We also have a story together, where we work out our part of what it means to be in the story of God, to relate to Him, and to build His church.
In July 2021, just over ten years since The Oak was started, we sent Chris & Lisa Mason and a team to start gathering Grace City Church in the city of Bradford. Then in July 2024 we sent Jack & Mez Carter and a team to start gathering Living Hope Church in East Leeds.
We are trusting Him for what is next...
