Hi. We hope you enjoy catching up!

Welcome and thank you for joining us. If this is your first time at The Oak, hello, we hope you enjoy our time together today.

Our plan today is to start by worshiping together with one of our worship leaders (song words will be on-screen). After that, there'll be a time of prayer and news, followed by a short talk.

There are materials on this page for our 0-3's (The Nest), Preschool to Year 6 (Treehouse) and Year 7+ (Oak Youth) to help the whole family grow together.

Happy Sunday, see you at 10.30am!

You can also catch up to all our talks via our podcast here.

The NestParables Week 4
0-3's

We are currently learning about some of the stories that Jesus told. We can read about these in the Bible and they each show us how much God loves us and how we can be more like Him.

Verse ‘I have loved you with an everlasting love.’ Jeremiah 31v3

Book The story this week is ‘The Good Stranger’ from Stories Jesus Told by Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen (see link here). If you don’t have a copy of this book then have a look at this video of the story (see the video here) or have a look in your Bible at Luke 10v25-37.

Songs God's love is big - Guess what, God loves you - When I look - The wise man built his house (see the videos here).

Activity Using a big sheet of paper, draw around your child and let them colour it in. Then remind your child of the story and that Jesus wants us to be kind and look after people who are poorly or need our help. At this point you could stick some plasters onto your picture and talk about how we can help people who are unwell.

If you have a play doctors kit you could use this to practice looking after each other. This would also be a good opportunity to pray with your child for people you know who are poorly.

TreehouseExplorers - Jesus Heals on the Sabbath
Preschool - Year 6

This week we are going to be learning about how Jesus healed a man on the sabbath.

First things first though, let's pack your bags for the adventure into the story and some things needed for the crafts later (if you want to do those).

This week you'll need:

The bible

A notepad

A pen

A phone or ipad to watch the video

Coloured paper

Toilet rolls

Once your explorers have got their bags packed, do a lap of your house and/or garden and get ready to learn together.

GAME

Are you good at paying attention?

Watch this video. You need to focus really hard on the players wearing white t-shirts and count how many passes they make…

What happened?

When Jesus was on earth the leaders of the people at the time were called the Pharisees. They were a bit like church leaders today. But the Pharisees had become so focused on keeping all of their laws that they’d actually lost sight of what was important.

STORY

You can read the story in Mark 3:1-6, or watch a short video of today’s story here

WORSHIP

Check out our Family resources page or follow these links to our explorer worship songs

THE GREATEST COMMANDMENT

NOTHINGS TOO BIG

ACTIVITY IDEAS

Jesus knew it was impossible to keep all the Pharisees rules. Can you do any of these ‘impossible’ things?

Raise one eyebrow

Lick your elbow

Wiggle your ears

Touch your nose with your tongue

Find a word that rhymes with ‘purple’

Jesus said the most important commandment was to ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbour as yourself’. Make a paper chain ‘Love Your Neighbor Paper Heart Garland’ like this one

Make a poster using toilet roll heart stamps (like this one) with the words of the greatest commandment, Matthew 22:34-40, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

QUESTIONS

Do you think you have any rules in your family? What do you think is the most important rule in your family?

How do you think the Pharisees got so focused on their rules they forgot what was important?

Why was Jesus angry with the Pharisees?

Do you think we ever lose sight of what’s important and get focused on the wrong things?
