Food & Fun Together
Posted by Will on 13th June 2022
Over the last few years, we have provided vital food hampers at key times throughout the year to families identified by schools as in need of some support. We’ve loved how people at The Oak have got stuck in, packing up hampers, making deliveries, and meeting and inviting new friends to Church!
Over the next year, with the help of some funding from the Sir George Martin Trust, Unity in Poverty Action, and Asda, we can offer something rather special to our community.
We asked local schools what would really help families in the long term and the overwhelming response was:
-
Support in the long term on food, health, and budgeting
-
Community initiatives to involve families
So, welcome to Food & Fun Together.
The vision for this project is to welcome local families into our community. It’s not all about the hampers, the helpful food advice, or the recipe cards. For us it’s a brilliant opportunity to extend our welcome to up to sixty families to our community, three times over the next year.
How will it work?
Schools can nominate up to sixty families, who we are excited to invite to the following:
August 2022The big summer picnic. Healthy hampers delivered. The big summer play event. All age church gathering. |
December 2022Big Oak Christmas Meal. Christmas carols. Christmas gathering. Healthy hampers delivered (January 2023). |
April 2023The Big Easter Event. Healthy hampers delivered. Invite to our Easter gathering.
|
Our hope is to welcome new families to our community, and provide opportunities for great conversation, friendship, and long term support!
How to be involved?
In August, we would love some support:
-
Coordinating packing and packing food hampers
-
Coordinating and making deliveries
-
People to help run events in the holidays
-
Pray - please pray for this initiative and that families feel welcome to come and that God’s Spirit will work through us!
If you’d like to be involved, you can sign up here or contact will@theoakchurch.co.uk and we can arrange a coffee to chat about it.
If you can't do August, but would love to be involved next time, there'll be the Christmas and Easter 2023 hampers and events too!
